Student Design Competiton FAQs
- Is there a specific region/area of the country that this stadium is located in?
No
- Does the kitchen want to be a catering kitchen (hidden from users), or open to be used by those visiting the space? Or... can this be flexible based on the type fo music label that is being created or emulated?
Flexible-you decide-open or closed or any combination thereof
- Can you clarify what a movable/flexible bar means?
All or some portion of the bar must not be stationary; i.e. able to move or change position/configuration
- Can the two floors be penetrated via stairs or other?
In the project overview it states, "configuration of the architectural space "must not be changed." the elevator provides private access between the two levels
- On the floor/furniture plan, do you want electrical/data/lighting to be on an overlay or all on the same plan?
It states on the written program (requirement "E") that the lighting/electrical/switching plan is to be on an attached overlay.
- Looks like you can move the exterior doors. If so, do the indentions where existing doors are stay or are they removed or is it up to the student?
In the building description it states, "configuration of the architectural space "must not be changed."
- What is brand?
Part of the challenge of the problem is to develop the brand identity for the recording company.
- As we read drawing A-4 for the first floor, it appears the maximum first floor ceiling height is 12'- 0" to finished ceiling; and 14'- 0" to (floor of) structure above. This is assuming the main 1st floor level is the major flat area and not the floor step.
Please refer to the written program where it states: "Maximum first floor height is 13'- 0" to finished ceiling, 15'- 0" to structure above; minimum ceiling height is 9'- 0." Maximum second floor ceiling height is 14'- 0" to finished ceiling; 16'- 0" to structure above; minimum ceiling height is 9'- 0."
- A typical HVAC plenum is 2' high; this would then appear to leave a maximum height of 10' and minimum celing height of 9' on the first level. Is this what is intended?
Please refer to the written program where it states: "Maximum first floor height is 13'- 0" to finished ceiling, 15'- 0" to structure above; minimum ceiling height is 9'- 0." Maximum second floor ceiling height is 14'- 0" to finished ceiling; 16'- 0" to structure above; minimum ceiling height is 9'- 0."
- Must the entire residential studio sleep/space/storage/bath be enclosed with a door for privacy, to seperate it from the conference area on the 2nd level? This would consume one of the 2 existing accessible egresses to the stadium concourse.
That is correct.
- The second level space currently has two accesible egresses ot the stadium concourse. If answer to the question (above) is "yes", then should students create a third accessible doorway to concourse on the 2nd level?
No
- Although individual window glass panels are shown (butted together) in elevation on A-4, no window framing structure is shown in section on any of the 3 drawings; If students were to develop interior elevations or prespectives shown against a backdrop of the full-height glass East window wall, how should this be represented? Presumably the window wall should not be shown as a solid 60' x 28' piece of glass?
Draw the glazing as indicated on the section view.
- There is a maximum of 7 boards, 11"x17" size only. Are we limited to an actual 11"x17" rectangle, or can we use boards of different shapes that can fit within an 11"x17" size?
The boards are to be 11"x17" rectangles.
- Can more furniture be added and can there be more than 20 stadium seats and possibly lounge furniture and extra bedroom furniture?
Yes
- Does sinks, toilets, faucets etc. need to be specified?
No, but they must be drawn accurately to scale and identified on plan.
- Must all fabrics need to be commercial grade, even in the bedroom (excluding sheets and blankets)?
Yes
- Can seating be added to the program as long as the minimum is achieved?
Yes
- The program describes bar seating-but if a seating that is lounge-like in manner makes more sense for the tone of the individual concept, is this acceptable?
No, the required bar seating must be incorporated, but more seating, such as lounge type seating, can be added.
- If tables must be bar height, how does a person in a wheelchair use it?
Alternate table seating must be provided to accomodate chair bound users.
